Found out from trying to photograph this latest bunch of pics -- request matte finish on your photos if you plan to post them. The glossy finish reflects the flash, as you can see. If you are printing your own pics, I found matte finish photo paper at Staples in three different sizes.

After a long quiet spell, I've turned back up like a bad penny. I'm trying to re-organize, regroup and go a little bit different way. More on that later...

I did purchase a new camera and accessories last month to try to get better photos what we are working on. A blog is not as much fun without decent pictures! This is my first attempt to publish from my new camera...I have a bit of a way to go! This is just on of Lane's latest with lots of hand cutting and dimension that doesn't really show. I've got a stack to work on, so I hope to improve with a little practice.

We did order two new toys today -- the Sew Easy Piercer tool with a few attachments and the Quik Stick by Quick Cuts. I saw them demonstrated and that was all it took! I'll let you know the results soon.

Dear Scrappers:

To get the ball rolling on Spring, Lane and I are hosting an ATC swap. How the swap will be run depends on how many of you reply to lar8183@gmail.com by 2/20/11.

In case you don't know, ATC stands for Artist's Trading Cards. They are the same size as a baseball card and fit well on the front of an A2 sized card. For each card you swap, you will get one in return. I'll send all the instructions when I see how many people wish to participate. I love the ATC's because they are so small that you can use a some itty bitty bits of your pretties and scraps. On the back of the ATC, you will print your name, web info, contact info (email or cell phone) - just the necessary info to reach you. For our first swap, I was thinking of a simple theme of SPRING! Easter, Mother's Day, gardening, whatever.

Completion date for the swap will be 3/16, but I would like to have all your mailing info by 2/20 so I can make labels. Of course, if you don't want to wait for the mail, you can pick up your swaps at my house anytime after 3/16. You do not have to be a scrapping manic to participate! A little knitted or crocheted flower and a few swipes of the marker/watercolor crayon, whatever will make a much appreciated ATC.

Just send me a note or call me at 774-2666 or Lane at 774-5263 by the 20th. This will be fun and we will all get some new cards for spring.

Sometimes, I didn't actually cut out an envelope when I was making the card, and sometimes I am too lazy to dig out my envelope templates, and other times I just don't have an envelope in my stash that I can make work. Check out this great tutorial for a cute envelope that doesn't require any special gadgets except a pencil and a ruler -- unless you want to bling it up!

Monday - Valentine Cards

Hey, Scrappers. Here are a couple of cards Lane made this weekend. They are so cute, if I must say so myself! Brads, rubons, background stamps, LOADS of hand cuts -- in fact, all the brown shadowing is hand cut.
Wish I could get a better scan on these because the colors are darker than they actually appear. All the 3D elements cast shadows, but you get the idea. We will be back to it tonight because the day will be here before you know it!

Lane is making sketches now for some new projects for the new year. She is working on her little shop, but isn't ready to reveal it yet. Maybe by the end of the week...I was doing the same, in my fashion, when I rediscovered Wordle. I found it a few months ago, but was unable to use it until I upgraded my computer. This is a really fun scrapping 'tool' and it is especially nice because it is free! Just go to
www.wordle.net It is really easy to use and to customize your own word clouds. Save them for later use or print directly from the page.

Please check out Thieley's blog that I added to links today - Mod Paperie. She is a design team member for svgcuts.com and runs her own blog. She has made some really good use of Wordle.

Six Months later...

Dear HC Scrappers:

Took a long break from this blog due to many things...but, I'm back! I hope you all are participating in the 12 Days of Christmas at svgcuts.com. I will be working all day tomorrow at "Deck the Halls" where you can see some of the fun things I've done with their cuts this season. I love the cupcake wrappers! And the Joyful Card set...and, I can't really decide on one over the other.

I'll be taking pics tomorrow of the shop and some of Lane's new designs. She is really into pages right now, although some of her cards are in the shop, too. We are also having a tasting of products from Brosmore's Pepper Patch (after noon!) so come on by.

This summer has going by too fast, but I have enjoyed our two parties. Next week, Delores is our hostess and she and JoAnne have really put a lot into it. It wil be Thursday, as usual. BTW, I FINALLY got ATT&T to get my cell straightened out -- 270-774-2666 if you have any questions.

Guess what happened to me yesterday! I broke two toes! I have to wear this cast thing for 6 weeks. Not going to look to smart with my cocktail dresses for McC's party and wedding. I will be back and forth to NoKY until after October 9th, so just call me, JoAnne, or Denise is you are confused.

We are considering having our regular gathering and an outing in September. We will discuss this next week. We should have some really good shots at Rocky Hill.

Saturday's Quickie Card

This is a 4 x 6 quick birthday card Lane made. You can write or stamp your own sentiment inside. This was mad with the Studio Calico March kit, plus Tim Hltz Distress Ink in Worn Lipstick (faves)and broken china. The chipboard button was secured with Tim Holtz' Tiny Attacher. The fabric-covered pink brad is from Dear Lizzie, but yu can make yuor own if you have an iTool. Also, Lane used the EK Success Swiss Cheese Border Punch and Maya Road Turquoise Mist.

I love the three layer matting around 'happy.' Denise, I will just let you know that this card was all hand cut except the Swiss Cheese Punch!

My favorite little tool this month is that mini stapler from Tim Holtz. You have to see it to see how small it is and think of all the possibilities.

No, you are not seeing things. The top card on the last post is a Thank You note to one of Lane's friends. In case you missed it...

The materials used in this card are from Studio Calico May Kit, Maya Mist Turquoise, Tim Holtz Pumice Stone, Shabby Shutters, and Worn Lipstick, Kenner Road Feedack border stamp, that great black Stampin'Up ink. Alphabet stamps are Studio Calico Storytime and Nadyia.

(The reason I list as many materials as possible used in a product is that I often REALLY want an item, but it is not credited in the mag or whatever. If you get bored with it, just let me know.)

Well, it has been a long time since I have posted. We have been trying to work out a better way of working the club and I think we may have something good in mind. The next meeting will be April 6th. I am posting a few pics for you tonight. Lane and I were asked to make donation baskets for a silent auction for my nephew, Jared's, football and baseball teams. You can't believe how much time Lane I put into those baskets -- and we still didn't get everything done that we wanted to do. But here are a few pics. I'll post more later. We might be able to do something like this here in Horse Cave, if asked. Most of the supplies came from Scrapbook Village and Studio Calico. I did get an iTool with all the stuff last week. It is so cool! I'll try to get some of those pics up this weekend.

Our meeting last week got cancelled twice, which was my fault. I am working on having a meeting within the next week to make up for the Christmas pages. The church is occupoed, so we may just have it at someone's house.

I've been getting a lot of questions this week! Our first class will be 2/21 at the Baptist Church at 2:00. We will be scrapping a two-page layout for Christmas photos. You are welcome to bring your photos with you if you want to work them into the page during the class. I know that some of you want more than one kit -- please email or call me if you want an extra kit so I can make sure to have enough. More details about this later.

I'm so excited about the snow! Yesterday, Denise, Lane, and I talked about some snow pages...turquoise, blue, and sparkling white. The last time we had this much snow, Lane was in grade school. Let's all take pics of the snow fun this weekend for some pretty pages.

I saw the movie about Julia Childs -- "Julie/Julia." I really enjoyed it. If you get a chance, you should watch it. If you like to cook, you'll like the movie.

Sorry for my absence of late, but you all know why. Just wanted to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving.

I'm looking forward to seeing you at the the cookie swap, although I REALLY don't need it. Even if you don't eat the cookies, you will have a cute gift to take home or give to a friend.

Our 2010 Hart County Scrappers Group will start soon after the first of the year -- date to be announced. I hope you will take some pictures over the holidays for some layouts and don't forget those family feast shots. I'd also like to get some all-occasion/birthday/thank you cards made to have on hand. I actually had to use a store bought card the other day! Valentine's and Easter will be here before we know it.

In case you need some help, Lane will be opening her Etsy shop as soon as we get back from Thanksgiving. I will give you the address next week. She has some pretty and creative cards, etc., for those who don't have the time to do all their own.

Dear Scrappers:

By now, I guess most of you have heard about Bob Hensley. There will be two services next week -- one in Horse Cave and one in BG. I don't know the details yet, but I'll keep my FB page posted. It is hard to imagine that Bob won't be back in the office next week. He will certainly be missed.

I spent several hours today, messing around with my papercrafting stuff. It is funny how we all fall back on the little things when we are upset. I'm glad that we have all been able to keep our group going and I am looking forward to having class on Sunday. We will finish the 'heirloom' Chinese takeout boxes, Denise's snowman card and my quickie ornament card. (Can you all believe that I can make a quickie card?) Only 40 days until Christmas -- there just isn't enough time to do all the projects we have in mind!

Don't forget the bazaar at Caverna next weekend. Sounds like there will be quite a few booths set up. Isn't it nice that we have such a good group of local people who share their interest and talent? It should be fun!

Well, I just can't say enough nice things about Scraps, Etc. Check out the links to visit their website. This morning, I was trying to place a pretty nice-sized order for some Bazzill Bling cardstock. Lane and I go through that stuff like crazy. I called three of the (uh-hum) usual suspects to place the order and boy! was I surprised. Poor customer service, and (in one case) 30% higher price. Then I remembered this great store I went to in Florence, KY this summer. I called them and they immediately started trying to fill my order and ship it TODAY! Plus a nice volume discount. Make sure you call them if you want beautiful paper. And, check out their gallery. Lane and I will be hitting that place at Christmas for sure!

I'm sorry I had to cancel yesterday, but it looks like I do not have the flu -- just an infection that should be under control by tomorrow. I hope! So, we can try again this Sunday. There are a few extra items that you might bring Sunday if you like. They are: needlenose pliers, an extra tape gun (lots of that being used this week), a clear liquid glue like Tacky Glue or FabriTac, your Vintage Photo Distress Ink Pad, a piercing tool, a large-eyed needle for ribbon work, your Xyron, and your SCOR-PAL if you have one. If you are missing any of these items, they will be available for you to work with Sunday, so don't worry.

Yeah!!! I finally learned how to change the color on digital stamps. No more black and white only. I use Photoshop 7.0.1, but I found a tutorial on Photoshop Elements that was pretty much the same. If you came to the Santa Hat card class this fall, the Merry and Bright tag on the front of the card was made with a digital stamp. They are very inexpensive and all over the Internet for download -- if you don't want to make your own. Try Cutting Cafe, MyScrapChick, Frugal Crafter, to mention a few.

It's like having a whole lot of new stamps pads. Now if I can just figure out how to ungroup/colorize...

Because we missed last week, we have revised the class schedule for November. Next Sunday, November 1st, we will have a class featuring a gift bag with tag, gift card holders, and a Chinese takeout box (cookie or candy gift box.) The CTB can be used to present any small gift, but works well for food gifts because it is slightly waxed inside. If you haven't registered with Denise for this class, you can see her at the office or email me at SRoss3456@aol.com.

On Sunday, November 8th, we will be having a class featuring a two-page layout with a holiday theme. We have an opening on Sunday, November 15th for another class. Please give me your feedback ASAP at SRoss3456@aol.com on what you would like to see - another layout, cards, or gift packaging. Saturday, November 21st, Lane, Denise, Delores, and I will have a booth at the Caverna Christmas Bazaar, so don't forget to stop by. Undecided about Sunday, November 22nd...

December 6th will be the cookie swap. On that day, we will be making a quick paperbag scrapbook. If you don't want to make your own cookies, I'm sure Gallery Bakery can fix you up. Also, Alma would probably be glad to do any of your holiday cooking -- Denise can give you her contact info. After the swap, you will have a nice tray of cookies for Christmas AND a cute mini scrapbook.

These are the dates we have finalized for the rest of the year so far. We will try to plug in as many dates before the holidays as possible, so just keep checking the blog. January starts our new Recipe Club and Layout-of-the-Month. Just a reminder that the new recipe book will be 8.5" x 11". Each month, our book will feature seasonal recipes that we would traditionally serve that month. I already know my recipe for January is a soup. Please email your recipes to me at SRoss3456@aol.com as soon as you decide. I want to make sure everyone is represented in the new book as often as possible. BTW, the layouts will be 12" x 12". My goal is to make the elements of the layouts work on a 5" x 7" card as well.

For the class Sunday, please bring a red ink pad with you if you have one. We will have two available in the class kit, but if you have your own, you can work much faster. One of the cards has 21 pieces to distress in red -- it might take awhile, but it is cute.

I guess you all know that Delores fell Tuesday and broke her right wrist. She is having surgery tomorrow morning. If all goes well, she will have her fingers loose enough to work on her projects Sunday. If she isn't ready this week, Lane will make her cards and I'm sure D. will be back at it by next time. I just received the nicest thank you card from Delores on Tuesday morning -- Cuttlebug, sanding, and a very nice handwritten note. She adds a lot to the classes and I know we are all hoping for a speedy recovery.

Attached are two versions of a card that Lane has made to post to Studio Calico. She used products from their October Kit and add-on kit. I love the baker's twine and the happy stamp. She also used Tim Holtz Distress Ink (our big favorite with the co-ordinating alcohol ink reinkers) and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. The photos don't do the cards justice. I have been using Inkscape to convert the files to SVG and then separating them myself -- think of all the grilling/fruit/veggie files alone! Dear Scrappers:

Wednesday was a very sad day. Mrs. Calanthe F. Branstetter passed away suddenly while attending a luncheon with some of her friends and former collegues in the school system. Mrs. Branstetter is David Branstetter's mother -- David is married to our Denise, so she was Denise's mother-in-law. Visitation is Saturday and Sunday at Winn's, with the funeral Sunday at 2:00 PM. The obituary notice and a photo are on Winn's site at www.winnfuneralhome.com. I know her death was sudden and unexpected. I'm sure we will all be thinking about you and your family this weekend, David and Denise.

Denise and I decided to postpone the class Sunday -- those of you who know Denise probably realize that she really didn't want to disappoint anyone OR mess up the schedule! Sometimes life just gets in the way...anyway, we will decide after Sunday whether we will make up the class or just put it in the schedule on November 8th. If it suits everyone, we might make it up on a Tuesday or Thursday night, either this week upcoming or the next. The kits are made, but we did add in a fourth card with a little something extra. So, it probably wouldn't work to incorporate these cards into upcoming classes without making the classes too long. Please feel free to write me or call me with your schedule. We will be talking to you about this next week.

Please check the blog for updates after Sunday. Again, our sympathy to David and Denise, and the Branstetter family.

Mirkwood Designs and The Frugal Crafter

I just realized that I haven't put up the links to The Frugal Crafter or Mirkwood Designs. So I will remedy that today! The Frugal Crafter is one of my must-see sites on a daily basis. Check out some of her older posts and you will find lots of goodies.

Mirkwood Designs is a great site for templates. I realize that most of you don't use Sure Cuts A Lot, so this is a great site for box and card templates that you can print from your computer. Of course, you can resize them on a copier to suit your paper. The fan card is absolutely beautiful.

So get on over there and don't forget to look at their Google ads so they will get credit for the traffic.

Dear Scrappers:

Don't forget that we are having a class this weekend featuring a winter card, a Chritmas card and a Christmas thank you note. This week, Hobby Lobby has a 40% off one item coupon. It would be a great time to pick up some blank cards and envelopes if you are planning to make multiple cards. Until we started making kits for the classes, I didn't realize how much less expensive it is to start with a blank card and envelope rather than make them from scratch. You will save a minimum of $1 (up to $1.80) per card by using the pre-made bases. That helps when you are making multiple cards!

Before I forget, here is a nice little website for some pdf files. You do have to hand cut them, but they are cute. I have already made the daisy embellishments this weekend. I think they can substitute for a bow on your holiday packaging. If you can cut a circle, you can make these. http://www.kaisercraft.net/project-sheets/paper-crafts

On October 25th, we will be working on gift bags, gift tags, and gift card holders. Some of you know that I make my gift card holders using the cardboard core from inside bathroom tissue and paper towels. Please save up a couple of these to bring to class if you can. I have some for you, but you are welcome to use the items in our club box to make a few extras while you are there. These holders are handy to have around all year for birthdays, graduation, etc.

I also wanted to remind you to save your Crystal Light and Pringles cans. Papercrafts magazine did a section on packaging food gifts this month and there they were! With a little paper and a few embellishments, you can make a beautiful and sturdy gift container for cookies, nut mix, etc., and they are great for mailing gifts. I'll bring you a sample at the gift bag class -- easy peasy.

Not too early to start working on Christmas stuff!

Good Morning:

I don't always have a stamp for every occasion, so I started looking at www.fontspace.com. There are hundreds of cool fonts there. I downloaded some Halloween fonts and used them with my pens in the Cricut. Really cute. I found out this week that you can use any marker or pen in your Cricut. All you need to do is get some of those gel grips at Family Dollar or WalMart. Put the pen with the grip in place of the blade. It works beautifully.

The new issue of Papercrafts is out and they have 18 free projects online at www.PapercraftsMag.com. I love that magazine.

Denise and I made up a schedule of classes tonight. We will be having our card class this Sunday, October 4th, of course. On October 18th, we will have a class featuring three more holiday cards -- winter, Christmas, and Christmas thank you note. On October 25th, we will be doing a gift bag, gift card holder, and gift tag. On November 1st, we will have a class to make a two-page layout with a Christmas theme. November 15th, we will make a cookie box with gift card and another Christmas card. Please email me to register at SRoss3456@aol.com as soon as possible -- we are making the kits now. Class size is limited.

On December 6th, we are having a cookie swap! You will be asked to bring a copy of your recipe and one dozen cookies for each person participating in the swap. We are planning to make a quick mini cookbook with these recipes. More details about the swap are forthcoming in a later post. Please register by November 1st. You can email me or stop by the office (Hensley & Ross)to see Denise. As soon as you register, we will provide you with your recipe cards/template for your page. Also, please let us know what cookie you will be making when you register -- we are trying to avoid duplication. You can make any kind of cookie you like. It would be a good idea to chose a cookie that freezes well. At this point, we are planning to have the cookie swap at the Methodist Church in Horse Cave. Pending any activities at the church, we may have to move this date by a day or two. More about this later.

I would like to do one more class before the holidays featuring another two-page layout. Still pondering the date. I love cards, etc., but I would like to have a few Christmas pages ready for photos by Christmas week. If I have my pages in mind, I am much more likely to remember to snap the picture!

As you know if you have been coming to the class, Denise and I have been collecting tools and supplies that belong to the club. We would like you to be able to use these items to make your cookie recipe page or any project you have going. We will be at Dennison's an hour before class this Sunday if you would like to come early to use these supplies. We will also have two Cuttlebugs with lots of folders available for you to use. BYOC. (Bring Your Own Cardstock!) If you have any questions, just email me or call me at 270-774-2666.

After the cookie swap, we are planning to take a break until January. In January, we will begin our new recipe book. We have changed the format a little bit -- for the next book, we will be doing seasonal recipes for that month. That will give us a chance for some holiday treats and some good home cooking. The new book will be an 8.5 x 11 book. If you want to participate, you can pick up your own scrapbook between now and then. You might also want to pick up extra page refills to go in your binder at that time. Readily available at WalMart, Scrapbook Village, Hobby Lobby, etc.

Also in January, I would like to start doing a two-page layout class each month. I think we all use 12 x 12 pages. Email me if you are interested in the layout of the month club.

Things get busy this time of year. I just wanted to give you a heads up on our schedule so that you can make your plans.

RE: Cutting fabric with Cricut

I've been interested in trying this for some time. I'm going to gather my materials today and give it a try. I assume that I will need to satin stitch around the applique after ironing it on, as usual. Some people use liquid applique or fabric paint on the edge, but I find it easy enough to just stitch. I'll let you know how it goes.

Just wanted to let you know a few more things that we will be using in the class Sunday. If you have pink chalk and red, white or crystal Stickles, you might want to bring them with you. We have these items in the club supplies, but you can bring your own to make things go faster if you like.

I am posting a few pics from the booth at the Heritage Festival. I am not the world's greatest photographer, but I think you can get an idea of what we had in the booth. We are continuing to work on holiday items for the show at Caverna.

Hello Scrappers,

The blog is back! If you didn't know, Denise and I had a booth at the Heritage Festival last week with cards, gift bags, gift card holders, etc. We gave away a gift basket of our papeterie -- over 300 people registered, so it was a busy weekend. The fun thing was that our booth won first place in small business. We weren't even thinking about that. Scrappers Gone Wild!

Put a note on your calendar for November 24th. The First Annual Caverna Christmas Bazaar will be happening at the Caverna High School Gym from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Denise, Lane, and I are planning to have a booth there, as well. If you want any further information, please contact Sherry Emmitt or Vickie Bunch at (270)773-2530. This should be a good time to see what's up with all our local talent -- and just in time for the holidays!

On to the business at hand...our next card class is Sunday, October 4th, at 2:00 PM at Dennison's Market. We will be doing two Christmas cards and one Halloween card. The cost is $12. If you haven't already registered, please email me or stop by Hensley & Ross to see Denise anytime during business hours. (FYI, Denise goes to lunch from 11 -12.) While I was working this weekend, I used a variety of adhesives, so bring whatever you have. If you have Terifically Tacky Tape, you might want to bring it. Also, you might want to add a pair of tweezers and an old eyeshadow brush (bristles) to your kit.

I finally got my Halloween/Fall Cuttlebug folders! If anyone wants to use them, I will have them with me on Sunday. Bring whatever cardstock you want to use. The autumn cuts are leaves and pumpkins with vines, so any of the orange, brown, greens, burgandy, etc. colors will work. Halloween colors are the usual -- black, white, orange, yellow, greens, and purple. I've also ordered an overall pumpkin embossing folder, and if it comes by Sunday, I will have that with me, too.

I'm sure I will have more to add to the list by Sunday, so keep checking. Hope to see you then.

Lane agreed this AM that her fork tutorial was really helpful for making page embellishments. We've used a salad fork and a serving fork with good results.

Don't forget that Recipe Club is Saturday, September 12th, at 10 AM at Dennison's Market. Here is a list of things you will probably want to bring in addition to your regular kit: Crystal Lacquer pens, white Souffle pen, brown gel pen, a tapestry needle (sorry Denise!) and an eraser. We will have all this for you to use, but bring your own if you have it. I'll add to the list later this week if need be.

Also, don't forget that Sunday, October 4th is our next card/layout class. We are planning to do a two-page layout and two cards using similar techniques. Time saving, LOL!!! If you haven't already signed up, please let us know so that we can have your kit available.

I am really behind on my posts since about ... July. Sorry for the inconvenience. I'm trying to catch up a little this week.

First, you should check out a nice little freebie at Cutting Cafe. It is a printable stamp set that is free until the end of August. For those of you who were at Christmas in July, we used printable stamps on the Santa Hat card. PS's are very handy to have on your computer. The circular ones fit 1', 1.5', and 2' circle or scallop punches. The background stamps are great to make you own printed paper. Anyway, check out

Most of you know that I have been out-of-town, but I'm back and ready to get going again. Don't forget the Recipe Club on July 11th. We will finish this book in October for Christmas giving, and our next book starts in November. The format will be pretty much the same, so if you'd like to start now, just let me know.

Some of you may know Barbara from Creative Stamper from the Fiskars seminar at the Convention Center in Cave City last spring. She is planning to come again next spring -- and maybe even before then. These are photos from the GRILLIN' section of our recipe book we did on June 6th. I hope you can see some of the details through the page protectors. We had a lot of fun with these pages because we tried some new things. The cabbage page seemed to be a favorite with the wet and dry embossing technique. On my cabbage page, I used the ScorBug to make some evenly-spaced holes for my stitching -- on the egg page, I just winged it with the stitching! As you can see, we used some 'stuff' from home for these pages, such as Reynold's Wrap, skewers and toothpicks, and bits of egg cartons. The sparkle on the bananas is Diamond Dust, which is kind of a chunky glitter. The embossing on the Sauce page was made with a Cuttlebug, and the BBQ sauce bottle was made with scraps of clear acrylic painted with glass paint. All this will easily translate to cards and page layouts, so if you have any ???'s, just let me know.

Here is a card Lane made yesterday for a friend for their new home. She had only one sheet of the distressed wood paper, but she made it work! BTW, the envelope is shown from the back -- the front has been saved for white address labels so the PO won't go crazy! The card and envelope were made using Cricut WILD CARD, some Crysal Laquer, and various eyelets. She cut some of the flowers freehand. Inside the card, there is space for the moving date and a picture. It is pretty cute!

Dear Scrappers:

Just a note to let you know that I will be back in the Cave this weekend. I have quite a lot of posting to catch up with when I get home. Our last class at Scrap Happy last Saturday was so much fun. We finished seven pages with only a quick lunch break. I have lots of pics on my camera I'll post Sunday. Also, we announced that we will have our next Recipe Club meeting at Dennison's Roadside Market on July 11th. Next month will also be Christmas in July -- check back here for the dates and times. I think this group of projects will be a lot of fun and will cover some more new techniques that can be used in all your pages and projects. One of our Christmas gift projects will require a glass jar with a screw-top lid, so start saving your mayo (or whatever)jars.

Lane and I did manage to fit in a trip to Creative Stamper in Fort Mitchell and to Scraps, Etc. in Florence. Wow!!! Lots to show you next week.

Dear Scrappers:

Sorry for the late notice, but I thought I'd let you know that we are getting together this afternoon (Sunday) at 2:00 PM at Scrap Happy for a scrapping session. We are going to be working on all the extra kits people purchased from the last three classes, plus some clipboards. Anything you want to bring will be okay. Also, yesterday I finally broke down and purchased a Cuttlebug with 'several' embossing plates. I'll bring that down today if you would like to use it. Most of the plates I purchased are geared toward the 4x6 or 5x7 card front background -- because cards are Lane's thing -- but I did get some borders/corner clips/phrases.

RE: FORE! Card for Dad and Recipe Club update

Hello from the Cave,

This is a pic of a card and envelope my daughter, Lane, made for her dad. My husband is a golf fanatic, and yes, his initials really are PAR. Lane's paper choice was kind of retro, so she went for a very minimal look, but you could easily adapt this to a preppy kind of card with different paper and embellishments. Most everything on the card was cut freehand except the lettering, which was cut on the Cricut. Lane was lucky enough to spot a color coordinated toothpick in the kitchen to make her flag pin. A little eyelet for the hole and she was finished! This would make a cute card for Father's Day card if you have a guy around who spends a lot of time on the links.

After working on the kits for Recipe Club tonight, I thought I'd better mention that you might want to allow a little extra time in your schedule for the class next Saturday. This month we have six pages to complete. Although they aren't too difficult, it does take a little time to finish that many pages. You are welcome to bring a sack lunch or snack if you like. RE: Scrapbooking Kit for Recipe Club

Hello from Horse Cave!

At the next meeing of Recipe Club on June 6th, we will be using several new techniques, including watercoloring with ink and/or chalk. Either medium will work, but the technique is different. Both are easy! For me, it is usually a question of which I have on hand in the color I want. In addition to your usual scrapbook supplies, you might like to bring a pair of tweezers, a brown metallic gel pen, and your favorite green ink pad. Also, if you have a set of chalks, especially brown, cream, or greens, you might want to bring those, too. These items will be available for your use at the store, but if you have your own you won't have to wait to share! This technique can get a little messy, but it is well worth it. Some baby wipes might also come in handy!

Back in the stone ages of scrapbooking, I used to 'chalk' with old eyeshadows. At the time, I thought it was great. I haven't experimented with eyeshadows lately -- the new chalks are so pretty and transparent, plus they can be blended easily to look like watercolors -- so I can't tell you right now whether or not this technique will work with eyeshadows. But, I will probably try it...right now!

Happy Memorial Day!

I hope you all had a great holiday weekend. Denise and I spent the day cooking up the next pages for Recipe Club. Don't forget that we are Grillin' on June 6th at 10:00 AM. Please call the shop at 786-2009 or email me if you haven't already signed up. More about this later...

This is a picture of the layout (in progress) at our class last Sunday. This picture doesn't do the pages justice -- they all turned out so cute. Everyone had a chance to personalize their layout a little with various punches/metallic distressing, etc. Everyone finally got a chance to use the Scor-Pal to emboss the background pages and to try out the Scor-Bug for perforating paper for stitching. The Scor-Bug makes perfectly spaced indentions to make decorative stitching so easy. If you use the Scor-Bug, then turn the page over, you have an embossed dotted Swiss pattern. I just love this new tool. (And, I did get a chance to use those cereal boxes I've been saving to cut the star journaling tags. The weight of the cardboard in those boxes cuts easily in the Cricut, so keep on recycling!)

The cuts on the above pages are from Uncle Sam's Extravaganza I, II, and III. If you have Sure Cuts A Lot, the .svg files are available at www.svgcuts.com I have all three bundles if you are interested in getting any of these cuts. Just let me know at SRoss3456@aol.com. These files are used with the Cricut and SCAL. I get a lot of files from svgcuts.com. Their product is among the best of the svg cuts and the service is great. Anyway, Uncle Sam's has a lot of cuts that will work for summer, Fourth of July, Memorial Day, tribute pages, etc. I just pulled out some of my nephew's military pictures, so check back here to see a tribute page to the Army Special Forces.

The blog has been silent for a few days while the ladies at Scrap Happy ladies made some decisions. I guess by now most of you know that SH will be closing it's door on June 26th. We have ALL enjoyed our time at Scrap Happy and will really miss the shop, as well as Ericia, Jennifer, and Denise Ballard. Denise Branstetter, Lane, and I have had such a good time helping out at SH and working the classes. We love to papercraft and we thoroughly enjoy spending time with our fellow scrappers. Thanks to Scrap Happy for giving us the opportunity.

That being said, don't fear! We will be having Recipe Club at the shop as usual on the 6th. We are planning to continue Recipe Club (and other activities) at a different location. At this time, we are working out the details, so keep checking here for news. In the meantime, please stop by Scrap Happy to participate in their storewide sale. If you are not already on the mailing list, please drop me a note at SRoss3456@aol.com OR scraphappy@scrtc.com so we can keep in touch.

Things always change, but I believe the interest and the friendships will remain.

Red, White & Blue

Hello, Scrappers!

Just a quick update to let you know that we will be having a class this Sunday at 2:00 PM at the shop featuring red, white, and blue scrapbooking. We will make two 12 x 12 scrapbook pages, plus Lane will have a couple of cards made with the elements of the pages. We are incorporating two fun techniques in the class that you can use in all your papercrafting, so I hope to see you there.

The cost of the class is $10, which includes everything you need to finish the two pages except your own photos. Please email me at SRoss3456@aol.com or call me at 270-774-2666 to register for the class. Feel free to leave a message if I don't answer. You can also call Scrap Happy at 270-786-2009. Erricia will be in Friday and Jennifer will be there Saturday to help you. If you are planning to attend, please bring your regular kit (scissors, cutting mat and knife, adhesive, and glue/glue pen.) In addition, you might want to bring 2 sheets of regular lined notebook paper, a gold metallic stamp pad, an emery board, and an embossing tool. If you don't have any of the last items, don't worry...they will be available for your use at the shop.

Also, I will have my collection of patriotic stamps available for you to use at the shop this weekend. The stamps are custom order only, but you are welcome to use mine this weekend if you would like to stamp a page or two of red, white, and blue elements to use on your pages or cards for the summer.

Wow! Summer just crept up on us, but we have some really fun things in the works for the summer months. Don't forget Recipe Club is GRILLIN' this month and the date is June 6th.
Please get me your recipes ASAP so that we can include them in the layout for next month. Looks like this will be our biggest section yet.

RE: Flowerpot for Thursday night

Hello from the Cave:

I finally got a (not-so-good) picture of the clay pot for Thursday night's class on this blog. I know you can't tell too much from this pic, but it is a simple clay pot with Cricut vinyl cuts -- butterflies, flowers, bees, etc. I can't wait to get it planted up in the AM.

There is so much you can do with the vinyl! I found an herb planter and a metal deck planter today that I am working on now -- hope to show it to you tomorrow night. I love the vinyl on the water bottles and the little hand sanitizer gifts. So much vinyl, so little time...;)))

Maybe I can improve my photography skills by the end of class tomorrow night. Hope this helps.

Thursday night class update

Because you asked...

Here is a picture of the Mother's Day Flower Pot Card. Thursday night, the class fee will be $3.00, plus whatever you decide to make. Each one of these card kits, including envelope, will be $4.50. Please let me know if you want pastel, primary, or mid-tone flowers in your kit. The cards are easy enough, but A LOT of pieces, so please let me know how many kits you want. Also, you can change the sentiment from "Happy Mother's Day" to ... something else, if you don't need the card for Mother's Day. Just give me a call or email to arrange it.

If you want to make the Hat Card that is on display in the window, it will be $3.00 for the kit or $1.50 for the template for hand cutting. You can put endless bling on this card!

The actual flower pots are $2 per pot, $2 per saucer, and $2.25 for the vinyl. These will hold a 6-8 inch plant. There are so many things to do with these flower pots and vinyl that I know we will do this class again soon! The vinyl also works well on plastic pots -- if you need a different size, just let me know and Scrap Happy will be glad to get it done.

Don't forget Recipe Club this weekend -- remember to bring me your grilling recipes for the June throwdown! JK!!!

Quick Graduation BBQ Invitation

Hello, Scrappers!

Here is a really quick image of an invitation I used a few years ago for my daughter's and nephew's graduation BBQ party -- if you want a MS WORD editable doc of this clipart or invite, just email me as I seem to be having trouble posting it here. I will have two new grilling cuts on Saturday at recipe club, but I haven't finished the prototype yet.

The flower pot class will not be held until Thursday night at 5:00. We will have kits for the Mother's Day Hat and Mother's Day Flower Pot cards at that time. These projects are pretty quick, but they take a lot of advance preparation, so please give me an email or a call at SRoss3456@aol.com or 270-774-2666 to give me some idea what you might need. If you can't scrap on Thursday, then I'll be glad to help you Saturday either before or after Recipe Club. The flower pots -- and the cards, for that matter -- will work well for a gift for a lot of occasions besides Mother's Day, so you might want to change your sentiment.

Lane and Peyton made a really cute golf-related card this week. It is a very cute idea for a page or a Father's Day card, using eyelets, a toothpick, and a brad. And, don't forget Ladie's Day!

Please remember Jim, Delores, and family in your thoughts and prayers. I hope we hear some good news tonight.

Sunday Crop and Mother's Day

Just a quick note to let you know that Scrap Happy is having a crop on Sunday at 2:00 PM. We are not having a specific class this week so that some of you can get caught up on UFO's from our previous classes. Today, Sandra spent the afternoon working on her recipe book and I know some of you still have extra clipboards you want to finish. Anyway, we will be there to help with any project you'd like to finish Sunday.

We will also have the flip flop cards ready for you to make if you are already current with your other projects. These are the CUTEST things and quite easy. The example above is a Regina Easter design. I love all her stuff! Also, I am working on a May Day basket and a Party Hat tomorrow, so I will have something there Sunday just in case you run out of things to do...;))) The May Day basket and the Party Hat are the same pattern and can both be cut on the Cricut or with an X-Acto, if you prefer.

Next week will be the Mother's Day Flower Pots and card class. The supplies are not scheduled to arrive until Tuesday, so check back to see the examples after that. You can choose from an herb set or a larger pot for a flower. Dennison's Market just got in a bunch of herb plants and, of course, she always has beautiful flowers. We will probably have two sessions of this class to accomodate everyone, but we will post the info by next Tuesday.

The shop will be open all day Saturday as well, so I hope to see you this weekend. swr

Vintage Clip Art

Just a quick note for those of you who love vintage clip art for your cards and pages. Check out ww.peggylovesvintage.com. She has some beautiful clip art for sale -- you can download it immediately or order the CD. I have a ton of vintage post cards that I always intend to scan and use, but Peggy has done all the work for you if you need it in a hurry.

New card cuts on the way at Scrap Happy, including Flip Flops, Party Hats, Straw Hat and Purse set, a number of new shaped cards, and (so much fun!) ten new box cuts, most with windows. Stop by the store to check these out. You can purchase a template for cutting at home or purchase the cuts made on the Cricut to decorate at home. Of course, you can order finished cards for Mother's Day, etc.

It is such a nice, sunny day -- perfect for working on my spring projects. Check back tomorrow for the new class schedule. Get scrapping!

Sunday Clipboard Class

Wow! We had a really nice group this afternoon for the clipboard class. You can see some of the pictures above. We will be repeating the class this Tuesday night beginning at 5:00 PM, so give us a call or email to reserve your spot -- some of you have already signed up, so don't worry because we have you down. Anyway, come on down and make some clips.

I hope you all enjoyed the class today. We are trying to mix it up a little bit by doing some unstructured classes/pick your own design as well as the usual. I was really impressed today by how many of you had original ideas about your boards. I think we should do more of these classes, but let me know what you think.

The response to the clipboard class has been so great that we will be having a second class on Tuesday, April 21st, beginning at 5:00 PM. Teacher Appreciation Clipboards

Hello from the Cave and Scrap Happy!

It is getting to be that time of year -- graduation and Teacher Appreciation Day. At the shop, we have been working on some cute teacher gifts, shown above. You can order these items premade from the store, or we will be glad to make you a kit so that you can do it yourself. There are several options to choose from that are not shown here, so come on by the store and get scrapping!

Also, we have started making graduation cards as you can see above. The picture doesn't do justice here, but you get the idea. This example we are working on is in the colors of Hart County. We have done a set for LeGrande in red and white and and another set in red, blue, and gold. Just let us know your school colors and we can kit the card and envelope for you. Another option is to just use the card as a gift tag. There is a little slot in the card where you can insert a shopping card or a little something green if you like. Also, we have just purchased a graduation set with about 30 new die cuts to make scrapbook pages or photo frames. They are really cute. Again, if you would prefer that the store make these items for you, just stop by or give us a call/email.

Don't forget the class this weekend! This will be a fairly large class, but there are a few more seats still available. If you can, please stop by the shop and pick out your papers and embellishments today or tomorrow. You can do it at the start of class Sunday if you prefer -- Denise Branstetter, Lane and I will be at the shop no later than 1:00 Sunday to assist you and make your cuts. We will be having some rather extended hours today and Saturday to prepare for the craft fair and the class, so feel free to give the shop a call or email if you would like to come by tonight after work. 786-2009 (Scrap Happy) or 774-2666 (Susan's cell).

Craft Fair and Clipboard Class this weekend

Clipboards on Parade! I have uploaded some clipboards that we've finished for the weekend in case you haven't seen them yet. If you double-click on these images, you can get a better look. These clipboards are really nice to have and to give for gifts. (Teacher Appreciation gift...hint, hint!) They are also really cute used as a picture frame.

On Saturday, April 18th, Scrap Happy will participating in the craft fair at LeGrande School -- lots of premade pages, clipboards, and other goodies will be in the booth, so please stop by. While you are there, you will be able to sign up for our class on Altered Clipboards. The class will be held this Sunday, April 19th, at 2:00 PM. There will be finished clipboards for sale at the booth, but if you prefer to customize your own, please come down and take the class Sunday. If you are taking the class, you might want to bring your Terrifically Tacky Tape. There will be some at the shop if you are out. A clipboard will be provided in the class kit, but you are welcome to bring one from home if you'd like ideas for an additional board. BTW, Scrap Happy will be open downtown Saturday so you can register either place -- as usual, you can always call 270-786-2009 or email the shop or me.

Recipe Club News for May

Don't forget that the Recipe Club meeting date will be changed for May because of the Derby. We will be meeting the second Saturday which will be May 9th. Please call or email the shop (or me) to register if you haven't already.

This month we will be using a new technique in the book -- distressing. If you have a brown ink pad, you can bring it. We will have distressing ink available at the store. I prefer the distress ink for the transparency, but either will work. This is a great technique for your pages to add a little bit of definition. In addition to your regular kit, please bring an X-Acto knife or utility blade if you have one.

This month is Main Course, divided into beef, pork, poultry, and fish. The beef and pork recipes have been completed, but in an effort to include recipes from everyone in the club, I am calling for you to send me your recipes for poultry and/or fish. You can drop the by the shop or email them to me at SRoss3456@aol.com. If you happen to have a picture, please include that as well. A panel of judges (guess who that will be!) will choose the recipe/recipes to be included this month. Also, we have added a special category to the book for the month of June -- GRILLING! It would be great if you would bring a grill recipe to the class so that we can get a jump on the busy month. The date for June may have to be changed to second Saturday: we are checking right now for conflicts with graduation, etc. Check back here for updates.

Recipe Club and a Surprise

Good morning from Horse Cave and Scrap Happy!

This month our regular date (first Saturday) for Recipe Club happened to fall on April 4th, which is the birthday of one of our regulars, Delores Reed. Delores is Denise Branstetter's mother so a little recipe-themed surprise party was in order. Our recipe section this month was Soups and Salads -- Denise Branstetter contributed the Grape Salad recipe (shown in the previous post) so she made a some delicious grape salad to go with my Vanilla Pound Cake mini bundt cakes. I can't claim any great recipe other than Tastefully Simple! The class members filled a paint can and a basket with assorted scrapbooking goodies for Delores. When Delores arrived, she was greeted with quite a surprise! I think Delores had a nice birthday and I know the class enjoyed it, too. (I heard someone asking if we would be having samples of a recipe from next months recipes...;)) Again, Happy Birthday, Delores!

I have posted above some pics from the class. Our next meeting will be moved to the second Saturday, May 9th, when we will be working on Main Course. Please check here for more details.

Paint Can Class Photos

These are the pics from our paint can class Sunday. A good time was had by all! Pam Lane came early, so she is not in the group photo, but she did make a cute can. Thanks to everyone for coming to the class. We are working on a time to repeat this class, maybe with a different theme. April is a busy month. Saturday is Recipe Club and the 18th is the craft fair at LeGrande. We want to schedule classes for the mini albums, clipboard and pens, and flower pots. Please email me at SRoss3456@aol.com to let me know your preference -- does weeknight, Saturday, or Sunday work best for you?

Another 'frugal crafter' idea: save your Crystal Light and Pringle cans. Also, wash and save your cottage cheese cartons. These are great to use as a gift box, similar to the paint cans. On the Crystal Light can, I used Teriffically Tacky Tape to cover the can. This will work for the cottage cheese carton, but I found out yesterday that you can also use Rustoleum spray paint to base coat the cottage cheese cartons. This isn't always necessary, but if you are using a single-sided paper to cover the carton, you will need to block out the label to keep it from showing through the paper. If you don't want to spray it, just cover with some white cardstock before adding the patterned paper. I used my drill with a cup hook in place of the drill bit to twist several pieces of colored wire together for a handle. I'm sure you could repurpose a lot of containers that are in your refrigerator right now -- sour cream, dip containers, etc. -- in the same way. Well, I guess that is my GREEN contribution for this week! ;)))
